March 31, 2011 Today, RcAeroTowing.com got a sneak peak inside the Horizon Hobby booth at the Weak Signals Toledo Show. Front and center was the new 1/3 scale Piper Pawnee. This Pawnee spans a whopping 130 inches and can fit up to a 100cc motor in its nose.
Featuring a full shock absorbing landing gear and fiberglass accessories, this beauty is a must for the aerotowing scene.
I had a chance to talk to Team Horizon member and ace pilot Craig Greening, who recently flew the factory prototype and has the following to say, “the Pawnee flies very well, with a 100cc motor for towing, this plane will become a standard on the aerotow scene, few planes tow as well as the Pawnee.” After taking some pictures and snooping around the booth, I look up to see Peter Goldsmith standing there with a huge, proud smile on his face having kept the new plane a secret for some time now.
The Pawnee is expected to be available for delivery in late July or early August. Pre-orders are being accepted right now on the Horizon Hobbies website.
Looking the plane over, it certainly promises to be a solid performer. Peter claims there will be three or four of them towing this year at the annual JR Aerotow June 2-5 in Montecello. Be sure you’re there!
