Hi Jim,
well, from my perspective, IMHO, the Scout wasn't quite as good as the 180hp Super Cub. Even though they had the same engine, the Super Cub was a little lighter and had a thicker airfoil...

Hi Jim,
well, from my perspective, IMHO, the Scout wasn't quite as good as the 180hp Super Cub. Even though they had the same engine, the Super Cub was a little lighter and had a thicker airfoil...
Wow! where have I been, when you started this thread, Jim? I only used to tow with two 180 hp Super Cubs and a Cessna 180, about 1600 hours in those and then an additional 400 hours of towing in a...
Fascinating information for the smaller tow dogs! Thanks for the info.
Hi Jim,
we're in the middle of selling our house. New job back in Boulder, so the wife says leave it in the box. I ask, how long will it take to sell the house? Hmmnn....;)
I've got to put that Super Cub together. A club mate is finishing his 1/4 scale slingsby pretty soon.
That's very nice and profound, Jim. Thanks and happy Easter to all the tuggers and followers here at RCAT.
Well, someday maybe us "little " guys will get to run with you "Big Dogs" but for now, we have to run in the "short" grass! Hey, thanks, it gives us something to look forward to.:)
Randy
Howdy John,
It's good to see some folks from out here on this website. I just got a new job at Boulder, so it Looks like I'll be aero-towing out of that area soon.
Randy
Thanks, Bob.
Well,
That answered my question. Looks like I'll have to convert to gas powered or carry a bunch of extra batteries. Extra money or extra work, hmmm.........
Has anyone towed with this airplane electric powered yet. Thanks,
Randy
That's a neat tip! Thanks, Len.;)
Randy
Those were the neat old days of aeronautical experimentation. What happened to them?
This would be neat to see one of these.:D
Neat airplane, Scott. It looks aggressive with that sharks mouth! Do they use those to tow with full size? Thanks,
Randy
Tough crowd, thanks for the info Tom.:p
Neat engine, Jim. That would work and it would probably be quiet too. By the way, my old DA-100 was lighter than the Zenoah GT-80 twin cylinder engine and produced more power also.
Len and Jim,
those kits look very nice. I'm sure that Bird Dog kit could be modified into the Siai-Marchetti. Has anyone heard on the progress of Aerosente's 1/3 scale Piper Pawnee Brave? Thanks...
Happy New Year to everyone. I was looking through some photos and was wondering what might be a neat, distinctive tow plane to build for this upcoming year. Here's a neat one. Does anyone else have...
Good point. I guess you could put the pipes on the inside. Would a DA-100 be too much for that?
Dave,
may I ask, are you going to tow with it at Aero Tow meets with many sailplanes and only a couple of towplanes? I suppose if you had good mufflers on which ever engine you installed, it...
Sorry to hear that, Adam. Interesting though, that the glider lost control also. Is there a possible frequency/ radio interference issue going on here? Unfortunately, it's the nicer planes that seem...
Nice rig, Jim. We've only had about 6 inches of snow, here so far. I've had to use the plow on my F-250 just once for our driveway and our road. We'll be flying skis at our Chili-Fun-Fly this...
We had an Applebay Zuni in Boulder, Colorado that we used to tow up. The pilot would always release lower than anyone else. He would get out so low out there, over the flatirons,we never thought he...
Len and the gang,
thanks for setting up this website and all that goes with it. I know it is truly a labor of love and sometimes anguish but it is all worthwhile! Those of us who just got started,...
