    LiPo Receiver Battery...

I am resurrecting an old Airtronics "Legend" it has been sitting around for about twenty years and just needs a little, well a bunch, of TLC. Anyhow, I want to use a 2s LiPo pack for the receiver and was wondering what folks suggest. Is LiPo power feasible?

Will I smoke check my Spektrum DX6i receiver, at 7.4 volts? The Docs on the spectrum are fairly limited. Sure, I could call the Spektrum mother-ship, but I thought I would ask the Collective first.

Tenergy makes a 2s 1800ma pack and my LHS has a two pack box set on sale. With seven servos I figure 1800ma should let me fly all day long.

    What sayeth the collective?

    Peace, Wolf

    Wolf,
7.4v will smoke the servo's unless you have HV ( high Voltage servos ). You can go as much as 6.6 and be ok with most modern servo's. If you are using the original servos that were in the plane, you may need to check out and see if they will be ok at 6v vs 4.8

The answer is a regulator. You can get one from MPI http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-21.html
They will accept a lipo and regulate it down to 6v or 4.8 v

It's not complicated, bigger is better.

One consideration: lipos do not like cold. Below 50F the voltage drops fast. If you are flying in warm climate, that would not be an issue

Hmm, cold temps. Well here in central Tejas I do not anticipate this problem, we are just a couple of degrees north of Hell. LOL

Last winter we only had one day below 32F. Life is good. :o)

I guess the regulator will kill the idea of using LiPo's in my HLG "Whip-it", too cramped. Bummer.

    Peace, Wolf

P.S. I just checked the voltage regulator link and it might be small enough... Thanks Len.

    Thanks Aero

I already have a battery, it looks like the regulator is smaller than the other unit I have seen. hen again, I may try the servos too.

You could use a LiFe TX pack.

A LiFe Rx pack would be much better.....6.6v......the Tx packs are 9.9v.
Vintage wood is the BEST! But....every now and then a plastic missile can be quite enjoyable!
