Erich and I are planning to build a "group" project this coming building season and are throwing around ideas for spar and joiners....so....I figured I would start a thread so we can all join in and detail different ways to go about it!
We were talking about the "fork" system that some of the higher end glass ships use and we made the comment that we had never seen a scratch built version of it....well...I found this site...
http://www.cb-roter-baron.de/
Were they do exactly that! Translated to English it still leaves much to be misunderstood....
So....I grabbed the pictures and we can talk about them here...
The plane that they built them for is a ASH-25....
Here you can see them inside the plane...
You can also see that the spar does not touch the fuse at any point....the wings are held in place with fore and aft locator pins....
My old Multiplex ASH-26 is set up the same way....it uses a round joiner but the joiner does not touch the fuse....
Here is the drawing for the forks....
They look like maple or some other light hardwood....
Here you can see where they inserted the pins and bound the joints with glass fiber it looks like...they also use a glass "sock" to join the spar it self to the joiner...
It looks like they use glass sheet to keep the carbon within the top of the forks...
All done before top sheet goes on....
Sheeted....
