you got it Duane, the build looks good. I hope to fly the Porter this evening here in Elmira.

It's not complicated, bigger is better.
Small update, here's the basic structure of the horizontal stab, I applied .007 carbon laminate to the upper and lower 1/4 x 1/4 spars. I'll also use it between the sub-leading edges and on the T/E spar. In other picture are the main wing 1/4 x 1/2 hardwood spars with carbon laminated to those also.
A word about West Sytems G-Flex epoxy, this stuff has a pot life of about 45 minutes, working time about 75 minutes and cures to solid in about 4 hours. I've used it on about 98% of the build so far and the slower working time is getting good penetration on the parts. It's been perfect for the carbon laminations too, the model is very solid and vibration from the bigger engine should give a little more peace of mind I think.
I'm really enjoying the build so far, excellent kit !
Time for some engineering, I want to install the elevator and rudder servos in the tail to keep the push rods short and not have to use pull/pull cableing, and with an 85cc engine up front I dont think weight and balance is an issue.
So, should they be installed in the surfaces or externally on the fuse like most other models ? guess I need to get the horizontal and vertical framed and temporarily mounted to get a better idea...
Duane,
I vote for building them into the stab like you show in your picture! That sure is easier than having to hook up the mechanical linkage everytime you want to fly the airplane.

Hey Duane,
Jim is 100% on target, PLUS, if one servo ever fails, you have another one that will get you home. All my sailplanes and tow planes are being fitted with dual servos in the elevator if at all possible now.

Looking great, Duane. You're a building machine!
If you're going to do the same carbon laminate treatment to the wing spar caps, face the carbon outward (facing up on the top, down on the bottom). You'll get more bang for your carbon buck that way.
Mike
Lets see...
I vote for the servos in the horizontal stab.
And I have to agree with Mike...the carbon will do a better job on the outside of the spars. He is also right...you are a building machine!!!
Brian
I dont know about building machine but I'm trying ! I'll do the carbon on the outside for the vertical stab and wings. I'm used to it being the other way around from the old sailplane days.
We'll put the servos in each stab half, I was kinda leaning that way too. I just finished laminating the vertical fin spars with carbon this afternoon so they should be ready soon and I'll have the vertical fin framed up tonight. Tomorrow I can get the servos installed and figure out where the wiring will be run.
Anyone know a source for some clear plastic tubes to run extentions through ? I'd like to install one down each side of the fuse and a pair vertical going up to the wings.
Thanks guys !
Duane
OK... time for the servo installation challenge !
Just in case somebody wanted to know, these are the Hitec HS 5645 MG servos with 168 in.oz of torque @ 6 volts. I'll use them on the flaps too, but I have HS 5625MG's for the ailerons, they have 131 in/oz. and are a little faster than the 45's.
