    BIGGS@Pottes Belgium 2012

Over the last weekend the BIGGS membership travelled to Eole RC Club located in Pottes, Belgium. Flying started as early as Monday June 25th (7-day flying event). I showed up on Friday afternoon and the event was already in full swing. The conditions were not ideal; however, flying went on for all three days which I attended. We had a little bit everything from sun, to clouds, to rain as well as calm and windy conditions.. The volunteers did a fantastic job ensuring that everyone was welcomed and well fed. There was plenty of beer and wine on hand and BBQ was the food of choice for Saturday and Sunday (see the attached photos).

I counted 11 tugs at the flying field on Saturday and plenty of gliders on hand. In my opinion, the highlights were a 9 meter ASW 28 and several 7+ meter gliders. The conditions for flying were challenging with the wind; however, thermals did show up here and there - one had to really work to gain altitude. I do not recall any carnage with the exception of some bruised egos with landing in the wheat field (if short) and the potato field (if long). On Saturday a pretty intense storm came through which cut the day short for towing. Usually, the towing went on to around 7:00 pm.

I'm sure there are a lot of us looking forward for Pottes, Belgium in 2013.

    Enjoy the photos,
    Martin

Well Mike i still keep learning....
Btw it was the fox that went in the wheatfield. Lost my speed in the last turn and didn't have the altitude to pick up speed...
Strong wind didn't help. Lots of guys stayed on the ground because of the tricky conditions. It was tricky but lots of fun and a learning experience. Regards, Maarten

Well said, Maarten. If I leave the field having learned one little thing, however minute or trivial, I feel pretty excited. Sounds like you're doing the same.
