    Welding!

I was used in the past to cut bicycle gear cable to make my release mecanism. Ususaly I was heating the part that I was willing to cut, putting some tin-lead wire that was penetrating in the cable and then cutting it. It was preventing all the small wires to come appart, then I was just needing to grind a bit to make the edge round and it was ready to use.

Just tried doing that today, just impossible with 60W iron and Tin - lead wire. the tin-lead melt stay in beads and run away.

    Do I am missing something?

Any other way or material to do that?

Sounds like you need to apply more flux and or grind the cable end to remove oxidation. On braided cable, its best to silver solder I believe, and that will require a torch.

It's not complicated, bigger is better.

I agree with Len, Flux and Torch.
