    Who will be the first????

This thread was created to give all of you first timers a place to brag about how great that first tow went (or a place for some comic relief if it didn't go so perfectly). We are waiting to hear from you!

Well maybe I can claim this on behalf of a friend - I did my first tugging last September, and my first real ride on the back at Seige Cross (UK) in October. Since then I have built a Porter tug, and towed a good friend up, Martin Newnham, who has just started in scale gliders. The real story is that Martin has added a tow hook to his Extreme Flight 50cc Edge 540, and last Sunday he tugged me up - His first tugging, and my first Aerotow since last October. It was a great occasion, as now we both know we can tow and be towed. Martin is now in Denver for two weeks on a training course (and hoping to visit Aeroworks!), but looking forward to his next tows...

Well another aerotow virgin had his first go today. I was supposed to be at an F3F slope racing competition today, but the wind forecast was not good, and and I didn't fancy a 500+ mile day trip to sit on a slope and not fly, so I invited another slope racer to my club field today. I knew Joel was interested in large scale, but he had never flown one. He is a very competent thermal duration flyer, and importantly a very smooth flyer, so I decided to let him fly my Flair K8. I tugged, flying my Pilatus Porter, and he went away like a Pro. I landed the tug, but he flew most of the flight, with me landing it. As this flight went well I let him fly my 1:3.5 Schueler ASH-26. Again he flew it like a pro, and had a great flight. I know that he is interested in the Baudis Antares (Like me, he flies Baudis F3F/F3B models), so maybe he will get the bug.

Our first Aerotow event of the year is next weekend at Seige Cross, Thatcham UK, so fingers crossed the weather will be kind to us.

I can do better than pictures - a bit of video, taken by Jon Sage using Joel's own Videocam (and edited by Joel), me on the Tug. For those who don't like loud music or F3B models jump straight to 4:50...
