Might be a simple construction article if anyone is interested. Let me know and I can make templates and take photos as well as write up a build on this with a few modifications to make it a bit more durable.

Bob, if you can put an article together, I will place it in the Website for all to read and download

It's not complicated, bigger is better.
I'll work on it and send a draft to you in the next week or so with pictures and also a template/pattern that can be downloaded, as well as the sources for all the materials.
The Dolly Works Excellent!I had 3 launches off it today. It saved me on my first flight taking off with a out of trim sailplane. The grass was high and it didn't bother it a bit.Good job Bob.

Well, we got the dolly out for a trila run today at Waveny Park in New Canaan. Seems to work great for sailplanes of various sizes.
Steve Pasierb was our able tow pilot. He towed Tom, Connio and Myself flawlessly for several tows. Connio's plane is smaller of the scale sailplanes in the NC fleet right now, then Tom's has about a 4m span, and my ASG-29 has a 5m span. I would say the weights of the planes range from about 5 or 6 lbs to 18 lbs. All were able to use the dolly very well and get up without problems.
The only thing I am going to alter now is to add some double ply on the botton half of the sides so that all the positions where bolts attach will be reinforced, this should be especially helpful for the wheel bolts over time and use.
I had hoped to tow also today, but my Super Cub had serious bout of control scizophrenia when powered up.......the ailerons and flaps seemed to have a mind of their own.........always helps to put the correct servo leads into the correct receiver inputs ! Afetr about and hour or so of following through the servo leads into the receiver I discovered the operator error at hand and put the leads into the correct receiver inputs.
Lens shrink labeler is a must have device.......I think that will be one of the tools I purchase this summer to help with my electronic set-ups from now on.
Back to the dolly..........So, I think it seems to be a pretty good design and the parts are easily available.
Pictures show my ASG-29 onboard and ready for tow.

Hi,
last year I made an dolly also. It worked nicely and it is slightly simpler to make than one pictured above, only straight cuts and no gluing. I guess that both have their merits. I will try to post some pics below and video.

I have had a few people contact me recently about the sailplane dolly that I have made.
At this point I am busy here with a few projects and can't make kits or finished dollies until later this spring at the earliest (April/May).
I originally was able to use a template for the sideplates from Tony in PA......many thanks for that !
I have attached both the PDF file for the template as well as the PDF document that includes all my instructions for building the kit (you will have to make the sideplates and get hardware from local sources such as Home Depot, the hardware store etc). The wheels I found are for the Razor scooters, they are 125mm diameter. I think there are some that are larger, in the 150mm to 225mm size also available if you look around the web.
I found the best ply for the sideplates is 3/8" birch finish ply that has about 7-10 laminations minimum. It is very strong and durable from what I have tested. I used 1/4" ply that had only 3-4 laminations on some of the early ones I made and there were strength porblems even with doublers on the bottom.
At any rate, thought it would be good to make the information I have avaiable to any others that may want to make one of these. I encourage anyone that is interested to look at the design and feel free to modify it as appropriate.........there is always a better way to make a mousetrap so to speak![]()
Thank you so much Bob for making this available! It will be very useful to may of us.
Petr
Very cool Bob, Thanks for the plans

Once upon a time in a place far, far away (Philadelphia, PA)...one of my college classmates introduced me to his girlfriend. The next week, she reported an odd experience (during her gym class) of seeing a platform with wheels on it with the label "GYM DOLLY"
When I saw Bob Morrow's post titled: "Dolly Information" my first thought was..."Now what?"![]()
