Haven't added anything to this in a while..thought I should update the build a bit.
I was able to get to the WRAM show down in New Jersey today and found a few items for the Super Cub.
Robart was there and I picked up the 1/4 scale cub landing gear set for the build. The only problem is the width of the gear is more than the width of the fuselage. I think I have it figured out by making a secondary 1/4" ply plate that will be attached from the outside that has the width for the gear. The gear is attached to the plate and then the plate is attached to the existing fuse and bolt hole pattern for the original gear that came with the cub. I'll paint the plate white and do a bit of building magic so that it appears to be original for the plane. I will probably do a bit of reduction on the plate edges and leave ply ears for the bolts holes and countersink them on the underside so the plate will fit flush to the fuse. Maybe use a bit of ply or carbon fiber reinforcement on the inside of the fuse so the plate will be strong for the use.
The other find was a prop hub from True Turn. I saw they had several sizes available so I picked one by eyeballing it for now. I can always get a different size if it doesn't seem right in the end. They make beautiful spinners that are of excellent quality and workmanship. They also can do custom work to try and make a hub or spinner for any specialized needs.
I also saw at the Desert Aircraft booth the carbon fiber Mezlik props they make for electric now. I picked up a 20-12E and also a 20.5-12WE to try on the Hacker A60-18L running 12s. I am hoping one of these will be just about right, although I also have several Zooar electric wood in both 2 and 3 blade designs. (Steve P.....these blades may be just the ticket for you on your cub with the Rimfire 50.......let me know when you have a chance and we can give them a try).
The show was pretty good overall, more space for the vendors and enjoyable to give it a view and see the new venue they have for this year.
I should get back to work on the cub soon and I'll post pictures when possible.
