    Visalia yesterday

I decided to escape "Carmegeddon" in SoCal this weekend and brave driving up to Visalia, the weather was awesome for July, it might have peaked at 88 degrees, another maiden flight on an Antares, and an unfortunate demise of a brand new HF ASW-28, and I did some flying of my Krause Libelle and 40% ASW-15.

    Hi Dennis,
Sorry to hear about the ASW, what happened? Anything we can learn from?

Glad to hear you got some flying in.

Len, the unfortunate thing about the ASW-28 was he was a new guy to aerotowing (but an experienced pilot) he hit the wrong switch on takeoff and tried an emergency downwind turn and the model spun from about 30 feet, a real bummer!

    Hey guys
Thinking about the repair on the ASW. Is the ASG-29 the same fuse? I could pull a mold for the nose and tail section and make an easy repair. The wings are fine as Dennis has seen and should not a problem to repair the minor damage. We will need a new canopy for it. Paul and I will be taking a serious look this wednesday and set a came plan. We should have it ready to go by October's event. We aren't the fastest builder's

The porter flew great as always, hey what's going with reinforcing the tail with triangle stock?

    Don,
The Porter I just built for a Sport Pilot review article came apart on the second flight. The tail mounting plate pulled out clean. No ripped balsa or splintered wood, it just came out. A little tri stock would have saved this plane.

After flying SteveR's Porter this weekend with a DA 120 mounted on it, I have ordered another one, but the ORIGINAL version. I get it in a couple days and will put a DA 120 under the hood. It was sooooo smooth and powerful.

Sorry to hear about the crash, it happens. Long wings = land straight ahead.

Don, the fuselage is the same, thats a good idea to do a mold for the nose, I would highly recommend Alvaro for the finish paint job, he is doing exceptional work, the best part is he is close to you guys.

    Don,

I just fixed a fuselage with a broken boom that was about in the same shape as the '28 after Saturday's misfortune. Take Dennis' advice and hand it over to Alvaro. There are a bunch of ways to fix that incorrectly. Alvaro does great work.

I will probably take a look at placing a wooden pin, dowel, into the side of the fuse and into the mount. Three on each side would do the job. Looking at mine it looks like it is just but jointed together. An easy fix for a major problem if the stab were to come off.
