The Porter you saw in RC Sport Flyer Mag was one I reviewed a month or so ago. It was the 3.3 ish Meter "Super Scale" version from Top Models. That's the same company we are talking about here.
Agwagon in a good choice. For that matter, anything that gets the sailplanes to altitude is a good choice. lol

    Ross,
TopModel makes three sizes of the Porter in two versions each, sport and super-scale, for a total of six different models. Wingspans basically are 2.0, 2.5, and 3.3 meters.

I have two of the 2.0m sport models (one with .91 glow engine and the other with electric) and two of the 3.3m super-scale models with DA-85 engines. You see, LEN convinced me that the Porter was best with the DA-85 instead of a twin cylinder DLE-111, or DA-120 etc...now guess what he has on his current Porter!

Actually, with the engine you have and what you have described, I think the AgWagon would be an interesting choice...plus, build it on here and post your experience and help expand the knowledge base! We all win then.

This is true, lol, but now that you just bought a second Porter, I assume you will be installing a DA120 on that, right? I must say, I do like the DA 120 on the porter. Its so smooth and with the twin cans and three blade prop, its almost too quiet. You cant hear it sometimes and you think it might have stopped running. But then again its a DA, they don't stop. ( unless we run it out of fuel ) not that THAT's ever happened.
It's not complicated, bigger is better.

Some guys in our club have been aerotowing for about 6 months now. We have a telemaster w/ a super tiger 90 and a texas rc Ibis w/ a dle 20, that one's mine. I have an ASW 28-18 2.5 meter sailplane too.The Ibis has towed an 8 lb sailplane so far. I have a 43cc engine laying around and wanted something bigger, suggestions? I would also like some opinions on low wing vs high wing tow planes, like a Pawnee vs a cub or porter. Is one type better than the other?
    Thanks,
    Ross
I realize this is a bit of an old thread, but it's also a relatively young forum. I figured it wouldn't hurt to bring this one back to life.....

I'm not sure if the OP ever made a decision, but I came across a really cool PC-6 Laser Cut Kit that fit his bill perfectly (sized for 45cc gas, cheaper than the ARFs, etc.).

If you aren't afraid of a little glue and sand paper, check it out here:
