    Gas engines & ethanol fuel

I have flown many different gas engines, but have not owned my own gas engine until recently. Should I use an additive I would mix into the gas can that would help me avoid future engine problems because of ethanol?

I have talked to a few pilots now. They did see ethanol residue in the carburetor or other engine parts, but have not used any additive themselves so far.

As you can see I am thinking positive: I am planning on flying the same engine for a loooooong time

Look for ethanol-free gas. Marine gas is ethanol-free or you can buy premixed gas/oil that is ethanol-free but is a bit pricey! What ethanol does is over time it rots out the rubber membranes in the carbs. So, the best thing you can do is never leave gas in the carb when done flying for the day. We may be rid of ethanol in our gas anyway because congress just stopped subsidizing the production of it and with out that tax payer money it becomes unprofitable.

Vintage wood is the BEST! But....every now and then a plastic missile can be quite enjoyable!

I think by and large the manufacturers have addressed the issue in the newer engines.
