    JR 9303 w/ Radian Pro

I have a JR 9303 (72MHz) with a Radian Pro: Ailerons, Flaps, Rudder, Elevator, Motor. Anyone have any setup advise? I'm trying to keep it simple to start, and I'll add flight modes as I go.

To keep it simple, just plug everything into the proper channels on the receiver and go fly. The Radian Pro has very positive control and the flaps are a bit of overkill, but fun to have. Once you have everything in place, it's not hard at all to go further with the set-up....

Your 9303 manual has a step-by-step prototype set-up for a full house sailplane at the rear of the glider section. That's a good place to start. You can put the flaps on the left stick and the motor control on the left rear slider (you really don't need much motor run with a Radian). That is how I have mine set-up and it works perfectly.

I have two additional flight modes on mine simply using the "butterfly" section in the programming and the left top two-position switch to choose between them (you'll see this too in on the butterfly screen -- position 0 or 1 on the switch). It's REALLY EASY. It gives me a thermal mode (flaps and ailerons droop to camber the wing with a touch of up elevator all which is adjustable off the flap stick travel) and a landing mode crow with flaps down, ailerons up and a touch of down elevator, again all variable off the flap stick.

Of course all of this is near impossible to detail here, but take a look at that section of the manual, plug everthing in the correct rx slots, get everything moving in the proper directions and trimmed, and then play with the butterfly screen. You'll impress yourself.

Thanks guys. I've been looking at the 9303 sailplane manual. I have also found a setup guide by Shermon Knight that seems a little quicker. I was messing around with the setup today as I was finishing building the plane. I'll just have to plug it all in and start playing with the programming. Up until now, I would usually set my planes up with max throw, expo, and flaperons, then fly it like I hated it. Time for a little more finesse I suppose.

Brian, Steve is the one to talk to about the 9303, I'm a 12x guy. He was flying his radian pro last weekend and it's pretty much a dream to fly, although I remember watching him fly it like he hated it, Looping 6" of the ground in 25mph wind.

Follow what he said and you can not go wrong.
It's not complicated, bigger is better.

    Steve,

Finally flew the Radian, and you are right about the butterfly function. Big fun. I've got a lot of tweaking to do, but I had a good time. I am only using one flight mode right now, but I'll finish a full setup when I get the time. For the money, this is a nice little ship.

Great to hear. I was surprised how well it did and how much fun it was to fly. Having the aileron function makes it much more enjoyable for me that the standard Radian. Don't get me wrong, that one is a great flyer, but the Pro is the way to go.

    Ooh. Poetry.
