    Elipsoid Evolution

    Hey dudes!

Yeah so I have this awesome plane I finished last week and it flies really nicely. My issue is slowing it down for landings. It does not come with flaps so I had to program the ailerons to act as flaps upon landing but even that isn't really doing the trick. I suppose I need spoilers. Where can I get a pair and what size would you recommend. Here are some pics and I have a youtube channel just search fairviewrcflier and you will find me.

    Hi,
Welcome to the forums, you can get supplies from our friend Alex http://www.iflytailies.com/store/win...es/air-brakes/
slowing the plane down may be a function of balance also. Have you check to see the CG location, If the plane is nose heavy, it will be difficult to slow when approaching to land. If you set a neutral cg, the plane will slow easier. Thats one thing to check. Also, may guys will make the ailerons go UP on landing ( crow ) which will help drive the plane down.

I'm sure some guys who are far more knowledgeable than I about these type planes will step up and offer some suggestions. Just wanted to say hi and welcome aboard.

Up huh? Hmm... I will try that as well... my CG is pretty dead on, When I maiden I tend to go slightly tail heavy as in my experience I notice that a tail heavy crash is less damaging than a nose heavy nose dive. I am pretty sure I will have to go with spoilers as the plane does not have traditional flaps. Thanks for your imput

I did forget to give some specs:

The plane is powered off a 4S 1800mah lipo using a NEO 780kv motor spinning a 14x6 folding prop ran thru a 40A ESC.
At 75% throttle I just let go and the plane flys away when hand launching.

So someone told me to reverse the aileron flaps so they flap upwards as opposed to downwards. I am going to try that as I seem to get a bit more movement as the hinge doesnt allow much downward movement but does allow upward.

You will not need a dramatic amount, it's usually very effective. Start small and add more as you like. Try it at altitude first

I hope it works because I don't want to cut into the wing to add spoilers. I'd like to make a glider, do you know where I can buy balsa and bass wood in bulk? All the hobby stores sell it for an outragous price.

Vintage wood is the BEST! But....every now and then a plastic missile can be quite enjoyable!
