Weather was PERFECT, but hot. We had the AC cranked up all day under the tent. Steve took some pictures and I'm sure he post them a little later this evening. Fun time as always here in DE.

Tom Pack flew his new Ka8 a few times, pretty impressive bird for the price.

Gotta go now, We're all heading out to Charlies house for poolside dinner and drinks! Who hosts an event better than him? Chucks the man.

    Charlie,

Thanks for dinner by the pool and re-hydrating me with wheat soda.
We were so hungry, we ate everything we could. Even parts of the planes...

Steve I cannot believe you landed that baby
    You are awesome
Split elevators is what saved that plane
Here is word to the wise for all out there , Two servos are better than one!
Tow was great and then the shit hit the fan , Luckily we both landed safely!

Thanks for Dinner Charlie, very generous and kind of you.

Steve, that plane should be a poster child for split elevators and two servos. The elevator got ripped off at 1000+ feet and Steve carefully and very skillfully brought 95% of the plane back for a PERFECT landing, hats off to his mad skills and flying talent.

It's not complicated, bigger is better.

So the other half of the stab is just here for redundancy?

    Learned something today!

    What's the plane? PWS?

It needed all the down trim Steve had to get it fly.....with only half the elevator there wasn't enough area to control the pitching momment of the wing......with much skill and as cool as a cucumber he brought it back and landed without a problem.
Vintage wood is the BEST! But....every now and then a plastic missile can be quite enjoyable!

At least when I have awful luck, it's the best form of awful luck one can have.

Yep, I'll second the statement about splits and dual elevator servos. Also a few other important lessons -- the possibility of both the sailplane and tow plane releases NOT working does exist. I'm sure it's up there in the 1,000,000:1 category, but damn. As for the sailplane release not working, I knew I had a problem, but it was failing open, so like a fool I kept flying all day thinking I may get a short tow once. Well... it failed closed once. Damn.

The PWS is the pride of my fleet. It flew superbly all day and was in perfect trim. I was going to fight that baby down no matter what. Also proved I can fly for several minutes without breathing.

On to Saturday. It's going to chill off to 95 degrees, but at least the humidity will be insanely high.

Looks like the V-Tail fashion just got you ! I'm glad the exit of it is you saved that really "special" one.Good job.
On an another note It is ok for me that you don't show the rest of us the cooling unit or the pool BUT was there some gliders at this event ??? Pictures or you know what they say ???
Just joking but wish you a nice event and have fun over there.
