ABOUT US

RCAeroTowing.com is a site created by and for the thermal and slope scale soaring and aerotow community.  We are a group of enthusiasts, tow plane pilots, and people interested in all aspects of soaring.  Our content is user-created to appeal to those around the world.  It is also shared with the wider RC community with the desire to attract participants into the joy of  soaring.  We remain keenly interested in serving those new to the hobby with the goal of helping them be successful in their early experiences, gain the understanding to progress and to always feel supported in their search for knowledge and information.

We focus mainly on scale sailplanes and the tow planes or “tugs” that bring them to altitude, however, a sailplane does NOT have to be scale to get into aerotowing. On our site, visitors will find articles on a wide range of soaring topics, a user friendly calendar of events from around the world, links to other sites and useful resources.  We encourage visitor submissions of content and model building articles of any length, as well as product reviews, photographs, video, humor and anything else related to our hobby.

RCAeroTowing.com is also an organization. Joining the organization will ensure a combined, louder voice in the future. Having the scale soaring community recognized as an organization will allow us a voice to be heard in issues affecting our hobby. The organization is free to join, opens all area’s of the website to you and will eventually offer some excellent benefits for our early members.

Welcome.  We’re glad you’re here.  Please be sure to check out our discussion forums by clicking the FORUMS tab at the top right of the home page.  We look forward to all you can help contribute to this growing community.  As we move forward a range of membership benefits will be offered based upon what we learn that you the hobbyist, your club and your friends need most.  Please do not hesitate to provide us feedback and suggestions.  This is your site.  We hope you’ll share pictures, offer to write articles and help keep our fourms lively!

Introducing Our Team

RCAeroTowing.com Founders

Len Buffinton, Founder

Len is a business owner, living in Connecticut. Building model aircraft has been a huge part of his life since the age of nine. Moving on to radio control planes happened in his late teens. His first plane was a Sig Kadet. Taking time off from R/C to construct a full-scale aircraft consumed 5 years from 2003-2008, Upon returning to radio control in 2009, he decided he wanted to try big sailplanes, and aerotowing was the practical launch method. His first scale sailplane was a 3 meter Pilatus B-4 which he took to an aerotow in Lancater, PA. It was that aerotow where he met Steve, Alex, Charlie, etc, the hook was set.

Len is an accomplished ocean sailor, winning a national championship in the mid 90’s and is an Instrument rated Private Pilot.

Steve Pasierb, Events & Flying Sites Director

Steve is a resident of Connecticut and works in New York City where he is the President & CEO of a national nonprofit organization.  He is a long-time thermal duration flier starting with the Baltimore Area Soaring Society and the Eastern Soaring League during the 16 years he lived in Baltimore.   Steve was throwing hand launch gliders in competition for about a decade before the discus style came into being.  He has a workshop full of beautiful stick-built scale warbirds that are quickly becoming more museum pieces than flying models.  Scale soaring dominates his flying today along with that never ending love for building Golden Age of Flight aircraft and warbirds.  He’s also getting his feet wet as a tow pilot and now flys two large electric tow planes, the mighty Pegasus originally built by Tony Elliott and a 33% Hangar 9 Pawnee. Steve is also a sailplane and e-power review writer for Fly RC Magazine.

Alex, Video Director

Alex is originally from Germany. He started flying RC sailplanes around age 14, but quit 2 years later because of change in interest. After moving to the US, Alex picked up flying RC planes again in 2003. His main interest is aerotowing. Besides flying tow planes and scale sailplanes, he enjoys flying slope gliders, since he has a slope available just 5 minutes from his place. Alex’ other hobby is making videos featuring RC planes and events. His alias onYoutube is IFlyTailies, and he enjoys a big group of subscribers to his videos.
